Frequently asked questions

How do I find a court?

Type its name or town in the search box above, or filter by court type. You can also use the court finder to search by postcode, or browse courts by region.

What is the difference between a Crown Court and a magistrates' court?

Magistrates' courts deal with less serious criminal cases and the first hearing in serious ones. The Crown Court deals with the most serious cases, usually with a jury, and with sentencing for serious offences.

Does every court have a hearing list?

Crown Courts and magistrates' courts publish lists that we show where they exist. Civil, family and tribunal lists are published on the official service, which each venue page links to.

Is this the official list of courts?

No. We are independent and not part of HMCTS. Venue details come from the official Find a Court service, and we show when we last checked them. Always confirm the address on your court letter.
