Grimsby Crown Court Listings: What a Normal Week Holds
Grimsby is a small Crown Court, and its list is short. In the daily lists this site stored between 6 and 15 October 2026, eight sitting days carried 70 hearings in all. That is just under nine a day. The busiest was Friday 9 October, with 16 hearings.
Two courtrooms did almost all the work. Six days used two rooms, and two days used three. So if you are reading the Grimsby list for a relative, you rarely need to search far. Find the courtroom heading, then the time.
Every one of those days started at 10am, though your own time is the one on the list or your letter. The last listed time moved around more, from 10am on Tuesday 13 October to 2.30pm on busier days.
| Day (October 2026) | Hearings listed | Courtrooms used | Last listed time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday 6 | 7 | 2 | 12 noon |
| Wednesday 7 | 3 | 2 | 10.30am |
| Thursday 8 | 9 | 3 | 2.30pm |
| Friday 9 | 16 | 2 | 2.30pm |
| Monday 12 | 9 | 3 | 11am |
| Tuesday 13 | 4 | 2 | 10am |
| Wednesday 14 | 12 | 2 | 11.15am |
| Thursday 15 | 10 | 2 | 2pm |
The figures in the table come from the lists HMCTS published for those dates, minus youth and restricted entries. They describe that fortnight only. A long trial, a judge on leave or a block of sentences can change the shape of any week.
For "Grimsby court cases this week", the list panel above is the quickest answer. It shows today and the next day once HMCTS publishes it. For days further ahead, the Crown Court Firm List guide and the Warned List guide explain what each list type covers.
When Does Tomorrow's Grimsby List Appear?
In mid-October 2026, the next day's Grimsby list appeared by mid-afternoon. In mid-October 2026, HMCTS updated the list for Thursday 15 October at 3.38pm the day before. Similarly, Friday's list came in at 3.26pm on Thursday. Two days is a small sample, so treat 3.30pm as a guide rather than a promise.
Lists can change after that. A case may be added in the evening, moved to another room, or taken out the next morning. The list panel shows when HMCTS last updated each list and when this site last checked it.
On the day itself, a second source becomes available. The XHIBIT board for Great Grimsby is the court's live status page. Its own notice says it can be viewed from 10am each day, and it updates as events happen in each room. That makes it useful for checking whether a hearing has started or finished.
Here is a practical order for checking:
- The afternoon before, open the Tomorrow tab and find the case number from your letter.
- Note the courtroom and the time, including any "not before" wording.
- On the morning, check the Today tab again in case the room has changed.
- From 10am, use XHIBIT to see whether the room is sitting.
If nothing appears for your date, do not assume the hearing is off. Some hearings are never published, and restricted cases are left out. The guide on why a case may not be listed covers the usual reasons. The guide on when lists are published explains the national timetable.
Town Hall Square or Victoria Street: Which Grimsby Court Is Yours?
Grimsby has two court buildings, and the address on your letter or summons decides which one you need. The Crown Court sits at Great Grimsby Combined Court Centre in Town Hall Square. The magistrates' court and a family court sit in a separate building on Victoria Street.
Mixing them up is easy. Search results for Grimsby courts blend both buildings, and some directories give one building's phone number for the other. Before you set out, check the address line on your letter against this table.
| Great Grimsby Combined Court Centre | Grimsby Magistrates' Court and Family Court | |
|---|---|---|
| Address | Town Hall Square, Grimsby, DN31 1HX | Victoria Street, Grimsby, DN31 1NH |
| Criminal work | Crown Court: trials with a jury, sentences, appeals from magistrates | First appearances, magistrates' trials, the single justice procedure |
| Other work | County Court (money claims, housing, bankruptcy), some family and divorce work | Family court, benefits appeals |
| Hearing lists | The Crown list on this page | Its own court page |
| Public parking on site | Find a Court lists none | Find a Court says the car park is not open to the public |
Many people meet both buildings in the same case. Many Grimsby criminal cases start at Victoria Street, though some come from other magistrates' courts. If a case is sent to the Crown Court for trial, or committed there for sentence, the next hearing moves to Town Hall Square. Your solicitor or the court can give you the Crown Court case number to look for.
The official details for each building are on Find a Court: the combined court centre and the magistrates' and family court. Both pages are the source for the addresses above.
How Do Names Appear in Grimsby Court Cases This Week?
On this page, defendants' first names never appear, and surnames appear only in limited cases. A Crown Court defendant is shown as six asterisks followed by a surname, but only when the surname reads clearly and no reporting restriction applies. Otherwise the entry shows asterisks alone.
Other sources work differently. The XHIBIT board prints defendants' names in full, and some third-party list sites copy them. In October 2026, Google's AI answers also repeated full names from XHIBIT for Grimsby.
Court Listings Today UK takes the opposite approach. A listing says nothing about guilt, and names follow people long after a case ends.
Masking has a practical side for you. You cannot search this site by a person's name, so use the case number from the letter, the courtroom and the time. The case reference search finds a listing by its number. Without a number, ask the defendant's solicitor, who will know the date, room and reference.
Some entries carry a note that reporting restrictions may apply. In the stored October lists, 12 of the 70 Grimsby entries had that flag. Rows covered by youth or other strict restrictions are left out altogether.
If you are named in a listing on this site and want it reviewed, use the removal request form. Requests are honoured.
Courts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8: Finding Your Room
The XHIBIT board for Great Grimsby lists five courtrooms, numbered 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8. There is no Court 5, 6 or 7 on the board, so the jump to 8 is not a misprint. One aggregator page for Grimsby has shown a Court 10. No such room appears on XHIBIT or in this site's stored lists, so check any Court 10 reference with the court.
In practice, most hearings ran in two rooms.
Court 1 carried 51 of the 70 hearings stored between 6 and 15 October 2026, and Court 2 carried 17. Court 8 appeared once. One more entry carried a room number that matches no room on the XHIBIT board.
| Courtroom | Hearings listed, 6 to 15 October 2026 | Hearing types in the 15 and 16 October lists |
|---|---|---|
| Court 1 | 51 | Bail applications, appeals, mentions, plea hearings and committals |
| Court 2 | 17 | One trial each day, with sentences and committals around it |
| Court 8 | 1 | Not in use on either day |
| Courts 3 and 4 | 0 | Shown on XHIBIT; no listed work in the stored days |
On XHIBIT, an idle room reads "No Information To Display". That wording simply means nothing is happening in that room yet. It is not a sign that a case has been cancelled.
Some entries carry "not before" a time. That means the hearing will not start earlier than the stated time, though it can start later. When you arrive, ask the usher outside the room on your letter. The courtroom guide explains how court numbers, lists and ushers fit together.
What Kinds of Hearings Fill the Grimsby Crown Court List?
Grimsby's list is a mix of short hearings and a small number of trials. In the stored October 2026 lists, hearings for mention and for sentence were equal top, with trials just behind. Bail applications and plea and trial preparation hearings came next.
| Hearing type on the list | Times listed, 6 to 15 October 2026 | What it usually means |
|---|---|---|
| For Mention | 11 | A short hearing to deal with one point, such as timing |
| For Sentence | 11 | The judge decides the sentence after a plea or verdict |
| For Trial | 10 | A trial starting; a jury hears the evidence |
| Plea and Trial Preparation | 9 | The first Crown Court hearing, where a plea is entered |
| For Application for Bail | 8 | A request to be released on bail, or to change bail |
| Committal for Sentence | 5 | Magistrates have sent the case up for a higher sentence |
| Trial (Part Heard) | 4 | A trial continuing from an earlier day |
| Appeals against sentence or conviction | 3 | An appeal against a magistrates' court decision |
Smaller entries included trials listed as reserves, mentions where the defendant must attend, and a committal for breaches. A reserve trial waits for a room to come free, so its timing is less certain.
Most of the work comes from the Crown Prosecution Service. Of the entries naming a prosecutor, 51 named the CPS and 11 showed "Other Prosecutor". That label covers any prosecuting body other than the CPS.
Two entry types matter for families in Grimsby. Appeals and committals both come up from a magistrates' court, so they are often a family's first visit to Town Hall Square. For the meaning of each list entry in more depth, see the Crown Court Daily List guide.
Parking Near the Court Centre: Why the Town Hall Car Park Is Off Limits
The council's Town Hall car park is permit-only from Monday to Friday, so most court visitors cannot use it on a court day. North East Lincolnshire Council's tariff table shows public pay-and-display there only at weekends and on bank holidays.
At the court centre itself, Find a Court lists no visitor parking. At Victoria Street, Find a Court states the car park is not open to the public. So plan on a public car park in the town centre.
North East Lincolnshire Council also publishes a Grimsby town centre car park map and tariff table. These are the council-owned car parks on that map, with figures as published in October 2026:
| Car park | Marked spaces | Accessible bays | Weekday public use | Over 4 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Town Hall | 49 | 0 | Permit holders only | £5 (weekends and bank holidays) |
| Cartergate | 110 | 4 | Pay and display, 8am to 6pm | £5 |
| Duchess Street | 214 | 12 | Pay and display, 8am to 6pm | £5 |
| Garden Street | 96 | 7 | Pay and display, 8am to 6pm | £5 |
| Heritage Centre | 20 | 4 | Pay and display, 8am to 6pm | £5 |
Trial days and jury days run long, so the over-four-hour charge is the one most court users pay. Check the council page before you travel, because charges change. Private car parks in the town centre have their own rules and prices.
If you hold a Blue Badge, note that the Town Hall car park has no accessible bays on the council's map. Duchess Street has the most. For help inside the building, contact the court in advance using the details below.

Which Phone Number Belongs to the Crown Court?
For the Crown Court, use the Crown Court email or a number labelled for it in the contact panel below. Several directories print the wrong number for Grimsby. One 0300 number they show as "the court" is, on Find a Court, the Divorce Contact Centre line. Another, a Grimsby 01472 number, is listed for the family court at Victoria Street.
Neither of those lines is a Crown Court listing office. If you call them about a criminal hearing, expect to be redirected. The contact details below come straight from Find a Court and refresh automatically.

Both Grimsby court buildings carry a scam warning on Find a Court. Scammers copy genuine HMCTS phone numbers and email addresses and may demand payment, sometimes claiming to be HMRC or enforcement agents. If a call or email asks for money and you are unsure, do not pay. Report it to Action Fraud, then check with the court using the details above.
The building's own facilities, such as interview rooms, a hearing loop by arrangement and video links, are listed here. Arrange anything you need before the day.
| Facility | Detail |
|---|---|
| Hidden Disabilities Sunflower network | Lanyards available on request. |
| Assistance dogs | Assistance dogs are welcome. |
| Hearing Loop | The building has hearing enhancement facilities available by prior arrangement. Please contact the Court office by telephone or email if necessary. |
| Refreshments | Vending machines are available on the first floor |
| Interview room | Six interview rooms are available at this court. |

Can You Watch a Trial at Grimsby Crown Court?
Yes, most Grimsby Crown Court hearings are open to the public, and you do not need a reason to attend. Members of the public, students and family members can usually sit in the public gallery. A judge can close part of a hearing or limit who may report it.
At Grimsby, the list makes choosing easy. On 15 and 16 October 2026, the only trial each day sat in Court 2, while Court 1 handled a run of short hearings. To watch a trial, look for "For Trial" or "Trial (Part Heard)" in the list. To see many short hearings in one morning, Court 1 is the better choice.
Expect airport-style security at the entrance. Phones must be silent, and recording or photographing is not allowed. The security checks guide and the public gallery guide cover the general rules.
There is no official live stream. XHIBIT shows only text status, such as whether a hearing has finished.
Jury Service, Witnesses and Family Members in Grimsby
Each of these visitors arrives at Town Hall Square with a different letter and a different day ahead. The sections below cover what is specific to Grimsby, with links to the full guides.
Jury Service at Great Grimsby
Your summons tells you which court to attend and when to arrive on day one. GOV.UK says jury service usually lasts up to 10 working days, with court hours of about 10am to 5.30pm. Because Grimsby sits only a few trials at a time, some days may involve waiting.
You can claim some expenses, such as travel; details are on the GOV.UK jury service page. Plan for all-day parking, as the Town Hall car park will not be available.
Giving Evidence as a Witness
Witnesses at Grimsby can get free help from the Witness Service, whose details appear in the contact panel. A witness for a trial may be told the trial is "warned" or a reserve. On the Grimsby list, a reserve trial can start late if a room frees up. The witness guide explains what to expect and how to ask for a pre-trial visit.
Coming to Support a Defendant
Family members can usually sit in the public gallery. On 15 October 2026, Court 1's morning hearings were listed 15 minutes apart, so arrive before the listed time. If the case came up from Victoria Street, check the Crown list for the new case reference. The family members guide and the defendant's guide cover the day in more detail.
Results, Sentences and Reporting Restrictions After a Listing
A Grimsby list shows when hearings happen, not how they end. HMCTS lists do not publish verdicts or sentences. Once a hearing is over, it drops off the list.
XHIBIT will show "Hearing finished" with a time, but not the result. Results reach the public in other ways. Local reporters attend court, and some sites collect sentencing reports. Those are secondary sources, so check them carefully.
If you were involved in the case, ask your solicitor or the court for the formal outcome. If you are a victim, the police officer in charge or the Witness Service can explain what happens next.
Reporting restrictions apply to some Grimsby cases, as the list flags show. Breaching one can be a contempt of court or a criminal offence. If you plan to post or publish anything about a case, read the court reporting guide first, and ask the court office if a restriction is unclear.
A 1988 Court Building on Town Hall Square
The combined court centre opened as a purpose-built Crown and County Court building in 1988. A written answer in Parliament in December 1990 listed Grimsby among the court centres completed that year. A later answer, in January 1996, gave its works cost as £4.84 million.
Today the building still serves both of its original purposes. Crown Court work and County Court work share it, which is why its Find a Court page lists civil and family business beside crime. As a result, not everyone in the waiting area is there for a criminal case.
If you are unsure which part of the building you need, ask at the entrance.
Grimsby belongs to North East Lincolnshire, in the Yorkshire and The Humber region. Other Crown Courts in the area include Hull, across the Humber, and Lincoln. The Yorkshire and the Humber courts page lists other courts in the region.
Other Courts Near Grimsby
If your letter names a different court, it is likely to be one of these.
The magistrates' and family court on Victoria Street is the most common mix-up. Hull and Lincoln are separate Crown Courts with their own lists.
- Grimsby Magistrates' Court and Family Court: Victoria Street, DN31 1NH. First appearances, magistrates' trials and family hearings.
- Lincoln Crown Court: The other Crown Court in Lincolnshire. Check your letter if a case names Lincoln.
- Kingston-upon-Hull Combined Court Centre: Crown Court across the Humber. A different venue, with its own list.
- Grimsby Magistrates' Court and Family Court, DN31 1NH (0.3 km away)

Frequently Asked Questions
Why Do Some Sites Say Grimsby Is in Yorkshire and Humberside?
Yorkshire and Humberside is an older name for the region. The court's postcode, DN31 1HX, sits in North East Lincolnshire, which official statistics place in the Yorkshire and The Humber region. The court is still in historic Lincolnshire, so both labels appear. Neither changes where you go.
Does the Grimsby Court Centre Hear Family and County Court Cases Too?
Yes, some. Find a Court lists money claims, housing, bankruptcy, divorce and children cases at the combined court centre, alongside crime. Family hearings are also held at Victoria Street. Your letter or order names the building, so follow that rather than the type of case.
Is There a Live Stream of Grimsby Crown Court?
No official live stream is published. The XHIBIT board for Great Grimsby is a text status page that shows which room is sitting and when a hearing finished. To follow a case in person, sit in the public gallery, subject to any restrictions the judge sets.
How Do I See Tomorrow's Grimsby Crown Court List?
Open the Tomorrow tab in the list panel near the top of this page once it shows a date. On the two October 2026 days checked, the next day's list was in place by about 3.30pm. Before that, check again later; an empty tab does not mean nothing is listed.
Can I Search Grimsby Crown Court Cases by Name?
Not on this site. Names are never searchable here, and first names are never stored. Use the case number on your letter with the site's case reference search, or scan the day's list by courtroom and time. A solicitor or the court can confirm a listing.
What If I Am Running Late for a Hearing in Grimsby?
Contact the court and your solicitor straight away, using the details in the contact panel on this page or on your letter. Explain when you expect to arrive. Do not simply stay away, because a missed Crown Court hearing can lead to a warrant.
What Does For Mention Mean on the Grimsby List?
A For Mention hearing is a short appearance so the judge can deal with a point in the case, such as timetabling or an update. It was one of the most common entries in Grimsby's October 2026 lists. Some entries say the defendant must attend.
What Does Other Prosecutor Mean on a Grimsby Listing?
It means the case is brought by a body other than the Crown Prosecution Service. In the Grimsby lists stored in October 2026, about one in six entries with a named prosecutor showed Other Prosecutor. The list does not say which body; the court or a solicitor can.
Does Being on the Grimsby Crown Court List Mean Someone Is Guilty?
No. A list shows hearings that are booked, nothing more. Many entries are bail applications, case management or trials where nothing has been decided. A listing is never a finding of guilt, and it is not a record of the result.
Why Did a Grimsby Case Disappear From the List?
Cases come off lists when hearings are moved, vacated or dealt with earlier, and restricted entries are left out. Check the date and the building first. Then contact the court or your solicitor, because a missing entry does not cancel a date on your letter.
